║ ■ BOGGLE V1.00 Overview & Instructions ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
═ Overview ═
BOGGLE will ONLY support ANSI mode, this will be checked upon program start up
and if ANSI is NOT on the user will be asked if they can support ANSI. If the
user responds "Y" then ANSI is turned on for the duration of the door but is
turned off when the door exits! If the user responds "N" then they are
returned to the BBS.
The users will be allowed to play upto the maximum amount of games allowed
per day (set by the SysOp in Registered Versions ONLY, default: 1).
The SysOp may also set the amount of make up/play ahead days that may be
played per day. (set by the SysOp in Registered Versions ONLY, default: 1).
When a user chooses to make up a day a calendar is displayed (CALENDAR.ANS),
if you do not want this calendar to be displayed simply delete it.
The SysOp may also set the Boggle Timer (Registered Versions ONLY, default:
5 minutes).
The Sysop has the option to change the playing screen background and the
playing board colors via the configuration file (REGISTERED VERSIONS ONLY,
default: white on white).
Users may quit out of the door and their information will be saved in
BOGGLE.DAT so they can come back in and finish their games anytime the same
day.
═ Instructions ═
Create a directory for BOGGLE and unarchive or copy all the files into that
directory.
Next, run INSTALL.BAT, this will create a directory called DICTS. After it
creates that directory it will run DICTS.EXE -D DICTS, this unzips Boggle's
dictionary files. Boggle contains a dictionary of 99,000+ words so it may
take a few minutes to unzip. After the dictionary files have been unzipped
you may delete DICTS.EXE if you like.
****** If you or your users notice a word that does NOT exist in the
****** Dictionary Files please contact me so I can include it!
Create configuration files for each node that you wish to run BOGGLE on.
(See the example configuration files for details).
The door can be run with one command line parameter:
BOGGLE NODE1.CFG <-- Configuration filename
if this parameter is left off BOGGLE looks for BOGGLE.CFG and uses it if
found, if it is not found then the program will abort.
To run in the local mode, simply log onto the BBS and run the door or you can
play it without the BBS by setting the LocalMode in the configuration file and
then running BOGGLE <config.file>.
****Special Configuration File Note****
The configuration file looks really overpowering, but don't shy away from it!
Everything you need to know about the configuration file is within the
configuration file!
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE Drop File Support ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
BOGGLE will support the following drop files:
1. DORINFO?.DEF 6. SFDOORS.DAT
2. EXITINFO.BBS 7. SFMAIN.DAT
3. CHAIN.TXT 8. SFMESS.DAT
4. CALLINFO.BBS 9. SFFILE.DAT
5. DOOR.SYS 10. SFSYSOP.DAT
and any other with the use of the CustomFile in the configuration file.
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE Multi-Node Support ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
BOGGLE is completely Multi-Node aware. If you are running more than one
node, simply create different configuration files for each node and include
that configuration filename on the command line!
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE Adopted Screen ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
After the OPENING.ANS is displayed there is an optional screen called
ADOPTED.ANS that will be displayed. This screen is completely user
configurable. You can thank someone for registering the door for you or
try to encourage someone to do it for you or give them instructions for
the door, whatever you like!
If you do not want this screen displayed simply delete it!

║ ■ BOGGLE How to Play ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
BOGGLE is a very easy but challenging game. Below is a copy of the HELP1.ANS
and HELP2.ANS (in ASCII format):
How to Play Boggle
──────────────────
Object: To find upto 24 words in the alotted time,
default 300 seconds or 4 Minutes.
Description: The game is played on a 4x4 Grid. You can create
words by putting letters that touch together. These
letters can touch in any direction, but you can not
choose the same letter twice in the same word. You can
however have the same word twice as long as they use
different letters.
Example: ┌─────────────────────┐
│┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐ │ Letters 1,6,5 = Cat
││ C ││ K ││ Z ││ O │ │ Letters 1,6,5,9 = Cats
│└───1└───2└───3└───4 │ Letters 10,6,5 = Cat
│┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐ │ Letters 5,6,2,1 = Tack
││ T ││ A ││ U ││ K │ │ Letters 10,6,5,9 = Cats
│└───5└───6└───7└───8 │ Letters 11,6,5 = Mat
│┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐┌───┐ │
││ S ││ C ││ M ││ N │ │
│└───9└──10└──11└──12 │
How to Play Boggle
──────────────────
Dictionary: After you save a word the dictionary files of
about 99,000 words is checked. If the word you
entered is in the dictionary points are awarded.
Scoring: Scoring follows the popular Scrabble scoring.
A = 1 G = 2 M = 3 S = 1 Y = 4
B = 3 H = 4 N = 1 T = 1 Z = 10
C = 3 I = 1 O = 1 U = 1
D = 2 J = 8 P = 3 V = 4
E = 1 K = 5 Q = 10 W = 4
F = 4 L = 1 R = 1 X = 8
Your score for the word is then multiplied by the total
letters in the word played.
Letters: Letters are generated for the whole month the first time
a player enters the door. Each player plays the SAME
words!
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE Scoring ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Scoring is based on the popular Scrabble game:
1 point for AEILNORSTU
2 points for DE
3 points for BCMP
4 points for FHVWY
5 points for K
8 points for JX
10 points for QZ
100 Extra Points for getting 24 words!
WORDHIGH.DAT contains highest scores for a single word. This is a Top Ten
score file and may be reset by simply deleting it.
On the first of the month BOGGLE.DAT will be removed and BOGGLE.SCR
will be renamed to BOGGLE.MB4 when the first player enters the door!
When in the game 'V' will display the scores, with the Alltime high and
last months highest score first, with this months top ten and the top ten
word scores following in the next screens.

║ ■ BOGGLE Configuration File ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
The Configuration file may be named anything you wish to name it, but it must
be included on the command line for BOGGLE to use it. If you do not specify
a configuration file on the command line then BOGGLE will try to use
BOGGLE.CFG, if that is not found the program will abort.
Everything that you need to know about the Configuration file is within the
configuration file.....
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE Registration Information ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Registration of BOGGLE reflects the concept of Shareware.
Please see BOGGLE.REG for details on registering.
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ■ BOGGLE External Bulletins ■ ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
BOGGLE can create external bulletins via BOBULLET.EXE. BOBULLET will read
the BOBULLET.CFG and will create any or all of the Ansi, Ascii, or Rip
bulletins. Simply run BOBULLET and it will pick up the default BOBULLET.CFG
configuration file, or specify which configuration file you would like to
use on the command line:
BOBULLET <configfilename>
BOBULLET must reside in the same directory as BOGGLE and BOGGLE NEEDS to
BE REGISTERED. If BOGGLE is NOT registered, a message will be displayed
and the program will exit!
Please see the enclosed BOBULLET.CFG for details on how to configure BOBULLET.
